Flapping Squirrel Tail

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues - (the real) Elizabeth Taylor

Horseshoes

I have some strange talents, one of which includes selecting and staying in strange hotels. I got to prove my talent once again over the weekend by reserving a room in Los Alamos, a town about 150 miles north of L.A.

I arrive, park next to a rusty wagon wheel, and go to the office to check in. The front desk was manned by two older ladies who were strangely very excited to see me and apparently thought I was a really rather sweet gal until they found out I wasn't staying in the room alone. I went from nice and sweet to the ho from LA dragging her filth into our nice respectable motel with intent to debauch. There was really nothing to do but debauch the place. There were horsehoes painted on the furniture! A prairie scene painted on the headboard! A quilt on the bed! And of course a Gideon's Bible in the nightstand...

Two or so in the morning found me wandering into the next room after J asked, "Is that door open?" This was odd...one shouldn't be able to wander aimlessly into the next person's room from one's own room. Luckily it wasn't occupied because that would have been awkward finding sleeping strangers in the next room...7 in the morning found us checking in on the "free continental breakfast." For some reason the Weather Channel was blaring from this giant TV in the corner of the room. J couldn't figure out why the Weather Channel of all things, although I was rather enjoying the funky Weather Channel music. My love for bad music did not prevent him from turning the channel to Spike TV and mumbling, "Yeah, that shit'll be on all day..." Why I found that funny I could not tell you.

Such was the experience at Strange Motel No. 3. I tell you, it's a talent of mine. Not everyone is this lucky.
